Why you need to see Dawn Falls: Marin’s best kept secret

by Jyo

It’s no secret that California is home to many beautiful hiking trails & spots. One recent discovery that had us mind blown was the plethora of hiking trails in the Bay Area’s Marin County!

Not only is Marin County home to Muir Woods National Park & Mt. Tamalpais State Park, there’s a bevy of cute little towns, beaches & trails that give you beautiful vista views, with minimal exertion. One such astounding trail we discovered recently on our Mojo quest was Dawn Falls.

Family friendly, relatively short & easy — this was an enchanting walk through moss-covered forests, littered with fall foliage & redwood trees. It’s only towards the very end, that there is a small set of switchbacks, leading to the top of Dawn Falls — a mini 25 foot waterfall. Now, the water was all dried up once we reached the top — there was no waterfall to see! Locals shared that early spring (February-March) is a better time to see water & an actual waterfall.

In spite of this, we were pretty zenned out with Mojo, here are some reasons why:

Soaring Redwood Trees

Fantastic Fall Foliage

Enchanting Moss Covered Forest

As you can see, I’m pretty convinced this little gem of a walk/hike is Marin’s best kept secret! So if you’re in the area, and Muir Woods happens to have sold out parking, or there’s far too much traffic heading that way…. here’s another hassle-free, peaceful & equally alluring alternative to discovering scenic Mojo, in Dawn Falls.
